Ami Purser

About

Biography

Ami (Turner) Purser is a native Colorado artist whose life has been shaped by a deep connection to art. Growing up in a creative household, Purser’s father, a sculptor, encouraged her to explore her artistic curiosity from a young age. As a baby, she often rode in his backpack to university studio classes. Some of her fondest childhood memories include painting at the kitchen table with her father and sewing with her mother.

After earning a BFA in Studio Art, Ami continued her education as a guest of the Hermitage Group in St. Petersburg, Russia. Her time spent with this collective of contemporary artists enriched her understanding of painting and further informed her artistic practice. Ami Purser now serves as a Lecturer of Drawing and Design at Colorado Mesa University, where she helps guide the next generation of artists. She lives in Western Colorado with her husband and two sons. Her work is represented in collections throughout the United States and Europe.

Artist Statement

My work is rooted in a search for connection—with nature, with others, and with the deeper layers of my own spirituality. I’m drawn to fleeting moments of oneness, when empathy, authenticity, and humility align into something quietly profound.

Transparencies and overlapping marks hold particular meaning for me; they reflect the layered nature of perception and emotion, inviting a deeper, more thoughtful engagement with the work. These visual elements aren’t just formal choices—they speak to the complexity of human experience and the invisible threads that connect us.

Each piece becomes a space for dialogue, an invitation to pause and reflect. Through this exchange, something personal—and often unexpected—can emerge. This is where connection begins.
